How Much Does A Personal Injury Lawyer Charge?

How much does a personal injury lawyer charge?

A personal injury lawyer usually operates on a contingency fee basis. That means that the lawyer does not get paid, unless they get a lump sum settlement for you. A personal injury lawyer charges a percentage based on the award and you get to keep the partial indemnity costs (usually an insurance company will pay 15% plus HST on the first $100K and 10% plus HST on any amount above $100K).

We do not charge an hourly rate and prefer to meet with our clients or speak on the phone with any questions you may have. You will not receive an invoice in the mail after meeting with us.

At Lamont Law, we charge 30% plus HST after disbursements are paid. The disbursements are the costs necessary to secure the evidence; for example, ordering doctor clinical notes and records has a cost that would be classified as a “disbursement”. The disbursements at the time of settlement depend on proximity to trial and can range from $5,000 to $75,000+.

Most personal injury lawyers will fund your case until it resolves. This means that we pay for the clinical notes and records, employment files, and expert reports, for example, up front, with no upfront fees to you.

Many injured people are not able to work after they have been hurt by someone else’s negligence. This can be a very stressful time in a person’s life because of financial strain. Rather than focus on healing, an injured person has to worry about how they will pay their bills and are not able to afford a lawyer to advocate on their behalf. We recognize the need for advocacy without adding to your financial burden.

At Lamont Law, we want you to focus on your recovery while we work on your case. Call us today for your free consultation.
